The issue I have with solar and wind is what happens when nature is unhappy? Gloomy days, weak winds. It's much easier to get the sun than a strong wind I would think.
I don't know if the current grid can take the extra surge of energy. It's too damn old and we'd have to either 1) store energy in batteries (expensive) or 2) replace the grid to adapt new energies (also expensive).
Isn't the hydrogen process recyclable? H + O > H2O + energy > recycle and repeat. Basically free energy for a long time. And for fossil fuels, I remember that only the highest was only around 33 or 35% efficient; 65% is lost and can be recaptured but it isn't.
